Aberdeen in battle to keep Maybury
Published:
ABERDEEN chief Willie Miller today revealed the club is doing all it can to re-sign defender Alan Maybury.
Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood wants to retain the Republic of Ireland cap, who initially joined the Pittodrie club on a short term deal from Leicester City in January.
The 29-year-old is now a free agent after being released by the Foxes and he has been offered a long term contract with the Reds.
Wages could prove to be a stumbling block although the former Hearts man Maybury is keen to stay in Scotland.
“We’re continuing to speak to Alan Maybury and we remain hopeful that he’ll stay,” said Miller.
Meanwhile, Stuart Duff and Bertrand Bossu are expected to pen new deals this week.
French keeper Bossu impressed on trial and is now ready to commit his future to the club.
Duff enjoyed a strong finish the season as he slotted into Calderwood’s plans.
The Aberdonian has made it clear he is prepared to stay at Pittodrie and won’t demand huge wages which could scupper any deal.
Duff moved north from Dundee United in January and although he found it tough to break into the team he’s grown in stature with time.
Miller should be in a position to announce later this week that both have signed on the dotted line at Pittodrie.
He added: “There are a few final details that need to be finalised with Stuart and Bertrand.
“But they shouldn’t prove difficult to resolve.”
Richie Foran is also set to travel to Aberdeen for an intensive club medical on a knee problem before Dons boss Calderwood offers him the chance to return to the SPL.
The Irish hitman is ready to quit Southend.

Duff might be well below but i think duff has improved since he was on loan with us! Maybury has to stay he is an amazing player that puts in a 100% to every single game! If calderwood signs Maybury then this will be his best signing ever! Maybury must stay!

I thought Duff had a nervy start with the Dons, he looked low in confidence but he has shown more as time goes on. It’s too early to say that he totally convinces me but I think he has done enough to deserve a chance. I thought he played well or a least showed some promise in the last 3 or 4 games of the season.
