The Buckie Farm: The Parkway, Danestone
Published:
EVER since I packed by bags and left my dear parents, roast dinners have proved somewhat thin on the ground.
So the prospect of a carvery meal with all the trimmings was just too good to turn down.
The first thing we noticed when we walked into The Buckie Farm was the fine smell of roasting meat wafting past our nostrils. The second thing was the price – an incredible £3.50 for a mountain of food. That’s all they charge for the carvery from Monday to Saturday.
We quickly joined the queue. There was a choice of gammon, turkey or beef (or a combination of the three), and a choice of vegetarian options for those of a herbivorous nature.
Having no such leanings myself, I went straight for the beef, which was carved as I watched by a skilled server. The choice of self-service accompaniments included three kinds of potato, a selection of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and rich, meaty gravy.
The beef was melt-in-the-mouth tender, and my mate was a big fan of his generous slices of turkey.
Never one to give up on a plate of food easily, I was really struggling to finish my huge portion and had to pass on the option of going up for more. What a massive feast and a huge bargain – with two drinks our bill came to a measly £10.60.
It was nearly on a par with my mum’s cooking in the old days, with the distinct bonus of not having to spend half the evening washing up.
