Dons are Naught a bad club for Forde
McNaughton sells Pittodrie to keeper

FORMER Aberdeen player Kevin McNaughton today revealed he’s trying to convince Cardiff City team-mate David Forde to join the Dons.
Reds manager Jimmy Calderwood has identified keeper Forde to replace Derek Soutar who will leave in the summer.
But Millwall and two others clubs are also tracking the 28-year-old goalie who can leave the Bluebirds on a free.
Forde has already spoken to former Dons ace McNaughton about the Pittodrie club and the defender is trying to play an influential role in any potential move.
“David approached me and asked what things are like at Aberdeen,” said McNaughton.
“I told him he would love it at Pittodrie and moving up to Scotland would be good for his career.
“He would get a real chance to establish himself as the No.1 although Jamie Langfield is also up there and is another very good goalkeeper.
“David has a few other options but I believe he has to pick Aberdeen and I’m doing all I can to convince him.”
Forde kicked-off his career in his native Ireland before having spells with Barry Town and West Ham.
Forde returned to his homeland to join Derry City before Cardiff City brought him back to the big time last year.
But a series of injuries and other setbacks have caused his career to stall although he could revitalise his fortunes at Pittodrie.
Calderwood, who is also tracking Dundee United’s Mark Kerr, will discover after Saturday’s FA Cup final against Portsmouth where Forde is planning to pursue his career next season.
McNaughton, who is in line to face Pompey at Wembley, is certain he would be a success in the SPL.
He added: “David has been unlucky at Cardiff as we have a very good keeper in Peter Enckelman.
“We’ve also had Kasper Schmeichel here on loan which has made it difficult for David to break into the team.
“But I’ve faced David often enough in training to know all about him.
“He’s a great shot-stopper, extremely strong and brave so has the qualities to succeed with Aberdeen.
“David would benefit from a fresh start elsewhere and I’m just hoping he chooses Aberdeen.”
