We want Miller to stay says Mackie
‘He’s my perfect partner’

DARREN Mackie is praying Jimmy Calderwood wins his battle to retain strike partner Lee Miller.
Jimmy Calderwood was locked in talks with Miller at the team’s hotel ahead of today’s SPL showdown at Motherwell.
Scotland cap Miller is being tracked by Blackpool and Mackie hopes he snubs their approach.
Mackie said: “Lee has had a great season and hopefully he will agree to sign a new deal and stay at Aberdeen.
“We have played well together in the matches where we have been paired up front.
“That understanding will get even better if we play more games together.
“It would be great to keep that going into next season as Lee is a good player who has enjoyed a strong season.
“Aberdeen are understandably keen to keep Lee but ultimately it is his decision.”
Aberdeen have offered a new contract to Miller who is a free agent in the summer.
Mackie is expected to partner Miller in attack against the Steelmen.
And regardless of his strike-partner’s decision the Dons will be going all out for a win, to keep hopes of a third place finish and a UEFA Cup spot alive.
Six points is a must, if we want to get into Europe we really need maximum points.
“We have always had the belief that Aberdeen could still push for third place,” he said.
“Victory over Motherwell today would take us right into the race with a great chance of a return to Europe.
“But we must take six points from the last two games against Motherwell and Rangers.
“We have that fight in us to go battle right to the very end and will do our best to get third and end the season on a high for the fans.”
Mackie missed last weekend’s 2-1 win over Dundee United with a hamstring injury.
But he is now fully fit, and ready to shoot down the Steelmen.
“This has been a frustrating season through injury but I am fit now and want to get goals to finish on a high,” he said.
“Motherwell have done magnificently this season to be in the position that they are.
“But we have the quality in our squad to go down there and get the three points.”
