McDonald happy to help out old team Well

Celtic 2 Hibs 0

CELTIC striker Scott McDonald’s 31st goal of the season confirmed Motherwell’s UEFA Cup spot – and now he is looking for payback from his former club.

Skipper Stephen McManus was also on target as the Hoops went four points clear of Rangers at the top of the SPL.

The result also meant that Hibs can no longer catch Motherwell in the race for third spot.

Celtic have only one SPL game left, away to Dundee United, while Rangers have three, one of which is against Well.

McDonald revealed that some Motherwell players had urged him to help the Steelmen achieve European football for the first time in 13 years.

He said: “I had a few texts from my ex-team mates before the game asking me to do them a favour.

“So congratulations to them; I’m delighted for them.

“Hopefully they can go and do us a favour now.

“It is strange that we have 11 days until we play United but we will be more than ready for it.

“Hopefully there will be a lot at stake if Rangers slip and we have a chance of winning the league.”

Hibs finished the game with nine men after Martin Canning and Ian Murray were sent off late on.
