Clinical Hoops end Aberdeen Ladies’ cup dream

Celtic Ladies 3, Aberdeen Ladies 2

Published:

ABERDEEN Ladies’ Scottish Cup final dream was killed off by a clinical Celtic side.

The Granite City stars were missing key players for the rescheduled semi-final clash in Dundee.

However, Aberdeen grabbed an early lead on five minutes when Susan MURRAY launched a 30-yard shot high over keeper Johnson’s head.

The Hoops equalised two minutes later with a ball into the penalty box, when Celtic’s MURRAY netted from close range.

The Hoops doubled their advantage on 18 minutes when LOVE fired in a diving header from close range.

The Parkhead side’s third came in 35 minutes when LOVE burst into the box to finish from a cross in from the right.

(Half-time: 3-1)

Aberdeen replaced Djahansouzi with Wright up front, and pulled a goal back on 57 minutes.

A pass from Martin reached MURRAY who looped in a duplicate goal of her opener.

The Dons switched to a back three with Corsie replacing Gauld, allowing Stirling to push forward.

But it was the Hoops who threatened when Love rattled the post.

Aberdeen came into the game towards the end, with Corsie seeking out Martin with a long ball, but her half volley was well over the bar.

There was another let off for the Dons as Stokes winged forward on the right before crossing to Malone who sent a shot sailing over the bar.

Wright had a late chance but only the keeper to beat sent her shot wide.

Pushing forward until the very end the Dons won a free-kick 30 yards out, with Corsie forcing the keeper to parry her shot over the bar.

The resultant corner was cleared, and despite battling valiantly, the final whistle went to bring Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup dream to an end.

ABERDEEN: Chatham, Small, Young, Gauld (Corsie), P. Scott, Stirling, Murray, Fitzpatrick, Martin, Djahansouzi (Wright), S. Scott. Subs not used: Taylor, Hather.
