Ferryhill House Hotel: Bon Accord Street, Aberdeen
Published:
IT WAS a very busy Sunday evening when my husband and I dropped into the Ferryhill House Hotel pub for a quick bite.
So busy, in fact, that we had a short wait for a table to become free.
That gave us time to wait at the bar and we were impressed with the decor of the pub which looks upmarket but cosy at the same time.
Our food arrived very swiftly and there was a huge amount on both plates.
I had ordered hot smoked salmon, set on a basil and pea puree with homemade tomato ketchup, served with fresh market vegetables and potatoes (£10.95). It was all very tasty – and the salmon worked particularly well with the peculiar-sounding puree and ketchup.
It was refreshing to have crunchy cooked veg, rather than the usual soggy and saggy Scottish offerings.
There were even a few roast potatoes chucked in for good measure.
My husband was equally impressed with his chicken parmigiano (£10.95). The chicken breast was coated with parmesan cheese and basil, served on fresh tagliatelle and tossed in a creamy tomato sauce with green pesto.
Our only gripe was that the food was slightly more pricey than your average pub grub – but it was also tastier than the usual offerings.
