A TEENAGER was killed and three others injured in a North-east road smash.

The 15-year-old girl was a passenger in one of the two cars involved in the crash on the A90 Peterhead to Aberdeen road.

And today, in a separate crash, a lorry driver was trapped in his cab for more than five hours after a collision with another lorry.

The teenager died in an accident near Peterhead Power Station yesterday.

She was in a black Renault Clio that was in collision with a blue Ford Fiesta at 10pm. Three ambulances were scrambled to the scene as well as three Grampian Fire and Rescue Service units.

Firefighters helped free a second 15-year-old girl from the Clio. She and two 17-year-old men were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The 23-year-old woman driver of the Fiesta was taken to Peterhead Hospital and released after treatment.

Grampian Police traffic sergeant Graham Sloan said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision.”

Meanwhile, a driver had to be cut free today after two lorries crashed on the B9170 Oldmeldrum to Inverurie road outside Oldmeldrum Industrial Estate. Police were called to the crash scene around 6am.

But it was more than five hours later before the man was freed from his cab. Grampian Fire and Rescue Service group manager Duncan Smith said a major incident unit was called from Aberdeen to help two crews from Inverurie and one from Oldmeldrum.

A Scotch Premier lorry was “balanced” on its side in a “precarious” position against the New Look lorry in which the man was trapped.

Heavy duty lifting equipment was used to winch up the New Look lorry and a second heavy duty tow truck was used to pull away the other vehicle. Using hydraulic rescue equipment and cutting gear, firefighters eventually managed to free the driver of the New Look lorry.

He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious leg injuries.

His passenger and the driver of the other lorry were not hurt.

A police spokesman said thick fog was causing concern for motorists.

A Transit van came off the A92 between Stonehaven and Montrose at Lower Northwater Bridge just before 8am today. No one was hurt.

And another driver escaped injury when his car hit a lamppost on the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road at Banff.
