AFTER admitting I’d never had a proper kebab despite hitting my first half century a while ago, my husband was determined to rectify this culinary lapse.

And if I was going to sample a kebab, it might as well be a whopper ... the Blue Spice’s Special Jumbo mix on nan (£5.20) certainly lived up to that title. Packed into a large tasty nan filled with salad was chicken tikka, lamb shish and an enormous helping of doner meat. Thankfully, we’d opted to share and as tasty as it was, clearing our plates was a real challenge.

My daughter chose mild lamb patia (£5.50) with a garlic and cheese nan (£2.25). She declared the tender lamb and tangy, sweet and sour tomato sauce heavenly, while her delightfully savoury nan was delicious.

The really fine mixed platter starter (£5.50) had to be tackled later in the evening! Our takeaway also had a delightful surprise – 20% discount off the £18.45 bill – taking it to a real bargain £14.80.
