Wild Boar: Belmont Street, Aberdeen
Published:
BELMONT Street is a hive of activity on weekend nights thanks to its mix of stylish bars and night clubs.
On this occasion, I decided an old favourite, the Wild Boar, with it’s chilled-out atmosphere, would was the ideal place for a bar supper.
We arrived at 6.40pm and although meals are served until 8pm, we couldn’t see anyone dining.
“Is it still okay to have something to eat?” I asked the barmaid.
“Please yourself,” she replied.
After several unhelpful exchanges, another barmaid stepped forward, apologised and ushered us to a reserved table which she explained we could have until 8pm.
Ten minutes and a glass of Merlot (£2.10) later, I was tucking into one of the nicest suppers I’d had in a long time.
A gorgeous crispy salad made with all sorts of salad leaves, French beans and crunchy apples, and topped with a buttery filo pastry goat’s cheese tart (£6.95) that literally melted in the mouth.
My chum’s chicken breast with cheese, and smoky barbecue sauce (£6.95) also went down a treat.
The sauce, in particular, was fantastic for dunking the heavenly home-made style chips into.
A Pepsi brought the bill to £17.10.
Great food, shame about first impressions.
