Ardoe House Hotel: South Deeside Road, Aberdeen

EVERY so often you just need to spend a Sunday relaxing – every seven days or so in my case.
And what better way to do that than go for a spot of lunch with the girlfriend in the lush surroundings of the Ardoe House Hotel?
Okay, it was going to cost more than the average pub grub, but we felt like a treat.
And it was a treat to relax in the cocktail bar surrounded by big paintings and a nice cosy fire.
The boss ordered the vegetable focaccia with parmesan, (£8.25) which came laden with a wide choice of vegetables for her to feast on, including aubergines and peppers.
With side dishes of crisps and olives, the whole dish was declared a success.
Fancying something a bit stodgier, I went for the steak ciabatta with caramelised onions, a slightly pricey £10.50.
Along with a small ( too small in my opinion) portion of lettuce and sun dried tomatoes and potato wedges, the ciabatta was just the trick.
Packed with pieces of steak cooked just the way I like them, nice and juicy and not too chewy.
One gripe we both had was that the chips and my wedges came pre-salted. Unfortunately there was just too much salt for our liking.
But any flaws with the food, and there weren't many, were made up for by the extremely polite and efficient waitress.
