Frankenstein Pub: Union Street, Aberdeen

TRAILING around the sales looking for bargains can work up an appetite.
As we passed Frankenstein Pub, the warm lights and fine smells made us stop and head indoors.
We grabbed a quaint two-seater booth near the door and placed our order of a duo of chicken (£3.50) to share, a Frank Burger, (£6.95) and a Chilli Cauldron, (£6.25).
The service was prompt and very efficient. Half way through our yummy starter of two chicken goujons and two chicken satay skewers with a garlicky mayonnaise and sweet chilli dip, the friendly waitress suggested we move from our slightly draughty table to a cosy booth close to the fire which had just come vacant.
My son’s burger was enormous and came topped with thick smoked bacon, caramelised onions and a slab of cheddar cheese, plus chips and salad.
Although big with a nice steaky flavour, the dense burger took a lot of jaw-aching chewing.
My beef chilli was served in a cute cauldron and came with a few nachos topped with a dollop of soured cream and salsa. It also came with a portion of rather dry and flavourless plain boiled rice. The minced beef was nice and tender but the chilli lacked any real heat.
Overall the food was okay but nothing special but the friendliness of the staff, the quirky decor and cosy fire make you want to come back. With a coke and half pint of cider our bill came to £19.65.
