The Globe: North Silver Street, Aberdeen

ON A week night my fella and I were off to watch a concert.
Instead of dirtying dishes, we decided to get a pub dinner.
Our chosen venue was The Globe, a cosy bar within stumbling distance of the Music Hall.
For starters I opted for the cheese stuffed breaded mushrooms (£3.95).
The golden breadcrumbs and juicy mushrooms were a perfect combo but the blue cheese was pretty overpowering leaving a bitter taste in the mouth.
My boyfriend went for the wee taste of haggis (£3.50). But there was nothing wee about this starter.
An enormous pile of perfectly spiced haggis was served alongside mashed neeps and tattie, oatcakes and a creamy Drambuie sauce.
For the main course I had a hankering for steak pie (£6.95). In the Globe’s version generous chunks of meat were served in a rich gravy and topped with crisp pastry.
The whole meal, which was accompanied by plenty of chips and veg, was a perfect winter warmer.
My dining partner opted for the sirloin steak (£10.50) which is served with onion rings as well as the usual sides.
His haggis had taken the edge off his hunger so the slightly small size of the steak was not a big deal.
The meat was slightly burnt round the edges but a perfect pink on the inside.
With a couple of drinks dinner, which filled us ready for a night of entertainment, came to less than £30.
