Cloverleaf Hotel: Kepplehills Road, Bucksburn

BEST KEPT SECRET: Bucksburn’s Cloverleaf.

BEST KEPT SECRET: Bucksburn’s Cloverleaf. BEST KEPT SECRET: Bucksburn’s Cloverleaf.

IT WAS a real touch of nostalgia as my husband and I sat down to eat in the Cloverleaf lounge bar.

I hadn’t been in the hotel since 1970 when local acts, strippers and basket suppers were the star attractions.

Those days are long gone and the hotel, of course, is totally different now.

But I was pleased to find the lounge still had a delightfully old-fashioned atmosphere – a real pub.

And the list of food on offer was a perfect match – real pub grub.

My hungry husband had pate and oatcakes to start (£2.95). But the portion was so generous I had to help him finish it.

His main course was equally large and tasty. But he had no problem clearing his plate of the two chunky, tender beef olives in yummy “real” gravy with parsley potatoes (£5.75).

I opted for the seafood platter from the specials (£7.25).

Scallops, scampi and white fish in a perfectly cooked breadcrumb coating with a dish of really fine ‘home-made’ chips and a bowl of veg to share.

This was honest, down-to-earth pub food at equally down to earth prices.

No wonder the folk in Bucksburn have been keeping this place secret.
