Tesco’s bid to halt rival supermarket in Aberdeen fails

Legal challenge over Aberdeen City Council’s local development plan

Published: 11/10/2012

A SUPERMARKET giant today failed in a bid to quash Aberdeen City Council’s local development plan after a rival group won approval to build a store on a site near its own new shop.

Tesco had asked judges at the Court of Session to overturn the plan adopted by the local authority as being outside its powers.

The move was part of a planning dispute over a rival supermarket – with Tesco scheduled to open a store at the former Woodend Hospital annexe site in Rousay Drive in Aberdeen this month and Morrisons set to develop the nearby former Summerhill school site.
