A BIKER killed in a crash with a car has been named by police.

John McLean, of Buckie, died at the weekend after his Suzuki and an Alfa Romeo were involved in a collision on the A97 Huntly to Alford road.

The 38-year-old had been travelling towards Alford on Sunday – where a major annual bikers’ event was taking place – when the smash happened at 11.15am.

The biker, who was travelling alone, died at the scene.

The 59-year-old man driving the car and his woman passenger were shocked but unhurt.

The crash happened on a series of bends three miles south of Lumsden.

A section of the road surrounding the crash scene was closed off as an investigation team tried to establish the cause of the incident.

The bike was badly damaged in the smash.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service units from Alford, Strathdon and Insch attended the scene of the accident.
