DRIVERS in Aberdeen were hit by £1.2 million in parking fines last year, new figures revealed today.
Aberdeen drivers were stung with 43,422 penalty notices slapped on windscreens by prowling wardens – almost 120 tickets every day for on-street parking infringements.
Motoring group the Association of British Drivers said today the income derived from ticketing amounted to a “stealth tax” on drivers in Aberdeen.
But a spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council said: “It is not about making money, it is about improving public safety.”
