More than 17,000 bikes stolen in North-east in last six years

Police figures show eight bicycles taken a day

MORE than 17,000 bikes have been stolen across the North-east in the last six years, it emerged today.

New police figures show around eight bicycles are stolen every day across the region.

But only 6% of them are ever recovered as police struggle to keep pace with the thieves.
