Men in court for vicious Hogmanay assault in Aberdeen

TWO men who committed a Hogmanay assault in Aberdeen that left their victim unconscious have avoided jail.
James Smith, 26, whose address was given as 31 Station Road, Forfar, and Robb MacDiarmid, also 26, of 2 South Street, Kirriemuir, both attacked Rafal Czarnecki after seeing in the New Year in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the attack took place after the pair had been provoked by Mr Czarnecki.
Smith, whose address was given at Aberdeen Sheriff Court as 31 Station Road, Forfar, and MacDiarmid, of 2 South Street, Kirriemuir, were each sentenced to a community payback order with 180 hours of unpaid work.
