EUROPE’S tallest building on the banks of the River Thames has been officially unveiled in a spectacular light show.

The dazzling laser display was beamed from the Shard, which towers over the London skyline at 1,016ft (309 metres), in the official opening ceremony. The Southwark skyscraper is joint-owned by the Middle-Eastern state of Qatar and overseeing yesterday’s opening were the Qatari Prime Minister and the Duke of York. Prince Andrew said he hoped people who “come and work here and live around here” would appreciate the work that has gone into the building.
