Passenger planes in near miss
Planes passed within 500ft of each other
Published: 02/07/2012
A LACK of clear instructions from air traffic controllers contributed to a near miss between two passenger planes.
The two Loganair Saab SF 340s – one flying from Aberdeen to Stornoway and the other from Inverness – passed within 500ft of each other approaching Stornoway Airport.
The incident – which took place seven miles from the Lewis airport on October 5 last year – happened after the Inverness plane descended without permission, according to investigators.
