Aberdeen rape support service under threat of closure

Government to cut funding by 50%

A CHARITY which helps victims of rape could be forced to close its centres in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh over funding cuts.

The Scottish Government said its funding to Rape and Abuse Support (RAS) will be cut by 50%.

The charity’s director Dawn Brown said the move meant there was not enough cash to guarantee the organisation can stay open for the rest of the year.

A base at Peterhead has already closed and Ms Brown said they needed to find £50,000 to keep the remaining centres in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh open.
