Ruby Chinese and Thai: Cornhill Road, Aberdeen

TUCKED alongside a thriving residential area and right across from the busy hospital, it’s little wonder this little takeaway does such a roaring trade.

However, though busy, the staff were as efficient and speedy as ever in serving up a piping hot feast for us when Sunday night kitchen blues set in.

My daughter plumped for sweet and sour chicken, Hong Kong-style (£5.10), and was quick to demolish a plateful of the lightly-battered, tender chicken pieces in tangy, sweet sauce with crunchy vegetables.

Grandad opted for his favourite king prawns with green pepper in black bean sauce (£5.40). Though slightly disappointed with the lack of spice kick in the sauce, he declared it very tasty, with delicately-cooked prawns and plenty of freshly-prepared peppers and onions.

My chicken in yellow bean sauce (£4.60) offered great chunks of soft chicken in a yummy, sweet sauce.

Along with two servings of perfect fried rice (£1.70 each), one of noodles (£2.30), and complimentary prawn crackers, there was more than enough to go round.
