A PLANE has been placed on standby to transport a cancer-stricken schoolgirl back to the North-east.

The heartbroken mum today told how her critically-ill daughter has been placed on life support.

Lauren Downie said Olivia’s rapid deterioration has made their plea to have her home from Mexico even more urgent.

A special flight, leaving from San Diego, California, has been organised to whisk her home to Fraserburgh.

However, money is still needed fund the journey.

Olivia’s Just Giving page is aiming to raise £110,000 to cover the costs of the journey and medical bills.

The total today stood at more than £59,000.
