Keane holds key, but Irish must focus on defence

Former Aberdeen FC player Gary Dempsey knows more is needed

REPUBLIC of Ireland striker Robbie Keane faces the biggest test of his career when the Euro 2012 kick-off today.

With 53 goals, Keane is Ireland’s all-time leading scorer and has starred for Inter Milan, Celtic, Liverpool and Spurs.

But former Aberdeen FC midfielder Gary Dempsey fears even Keane will fail to score in Giovanni Trapattoni’s side where safety first comes ahead of attacking adventure.
