President Obama pokes fun at David Beckham

DAVID Beckham proved himself a good sport when US President Barack Obama joked about his age and his line of underwear.

Congratulating David Beckham’s team LA Galaxy at the White House after its Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup victory, President Obama said: “I have to say I gave David a hard time. I said half his team mates could be his kids.”

Mr Obama added: “Last year, at the age of 35, David had his best year at MLS. He did it despite fracturing his spine halfway through the season.

“It’s a rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear.”

Meanwhile, it was announced today that David Beckham, 37, is to make a guest appearance at the hand-over ceremony of the Olympic Flame in Athens.

David will be joined by five young people for tomorrow’s ceremony at the Panathenaic Stadium to bring the flame back to Britain for the torch relay.
