Winter weather roars back as the snow returns

THOUSANDS of people across the North-east were this afternoon without power as wintry conditions blasted the area.

Roads were closed due to snow or fallen trees, and there were also delays to flights and trains as the North-east was hit by up to 8 inches (20cm) of snow.

Fallen power cables meant 3,000 people were without power as engineers battled to fix the problem.
