West End Tandoori: Ashvale Place, Aberdeen

ONE of the disadvantages of living out in the sticks is the limited number of takeaways.
So our son’s refusal to sleep was a fine excuse to take a trip into town to an old favourite to see if he would nod off in the car.
Always keen for a bargain, the set meal for two seemed excellent value for money at just £22.95.
The starters of vegetable pakora, chicken pakora and chicken tikka – along with Bombay aloo – got us off to a lovely start.
With the choice of any main course, and being a sucker for an old favourite, I went for the chicken tikka bahar. A creamy number, the dish featured mammoth chunks of chicken and pieces of spinach but, unfortunately for me, a little too much cheese.
The wife’s south Indian garlic chilli chicken certainly had plenty of spice to it and was chocka with onions, garlic and, of course, chilli.
A Dons-red colour, the spicy sauce certainly had more kick to it than Craig Brown’s men have had in front of goal lately.
With two popadoms, two portions of pilau rice, a peshwari nan and a sleeping child thrown in, it kind of makes me miss living in town! Almost.
