The Globe: North Silver Street, Aberdeen

OUR bank balance means globe-trotting is definitely out of the question.

But thanks to its value-for-money menu, trotting to The Globe is definitely still on the cards.

My wife and I decided to kick things off with a sharing platter.

The £8.99 price tag meant we were expecting a starter suitable for two, but the vast plate of food that arrived could easily have fed four.

And it wasn’t just bog-standard pub grub either – traditional offerings like ciabatta and breaded mushrooms shared the stage with haggis bon bons, halloumi fries and chorizo crisps.

After that feast we were always going to struggle with the mains, but I manfully worked my way through the venison sausages (£7.99).

I was glad I did – the game sausages were succulent and rich, even if the black pudding and gravy didn’t quite match up.

My wife’s chicken tikka masala (£7.99) was a star turn too. She was chuffed with the size of the poultry chunks, and the extra veg, along with naan bread, poppadoms and mango chutney, meant she left happy (if utterly stuffed).
