Happy Uncle: North Deeside Road, Aberdeen

HEADING home after a long day at work, both myself and my boyfriend were in the mood for a tasty treat.

Right on cue, we passed the Happy Uncle.

After lots of helpful tips from the man behind the counter, I settled on the dim sum and sweet and sour sauce (£2.20) for starters, followed by the chilli beef and fried rice (£5.80) for my main.

My boyfriend, being a creature of habit, went for his usual chicken and sweetcorn soup (£3.20) and honey chilli chicken with boiled rice (£5.70).

The little dim sum parcels were fresh and tasty, with just the right amount of bite to them.

The chilli beef didn't set my mouth alight, but it was balanced with the right amount of sweetness. On the downside, the egg fried rice was a little too clumpy.

My boyfriend’s soup whetted his appetite but the sizeable portion was almost too much.

Not that it stopped him cleaning his plate of honey chilli chicken, of course. The food certainly hit the right spot.
