The Office: Crown Street, Aberdeen

I’M NOT the biggest Robert Burns fan, but even I have to admit, when he’s right, he’s right.
“The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley” is a theme for my life – even in little tasks like meeting some friends for some grub.
Popping into The Office we grabbed a booth and scanned the menu.
After deciding on a steak, a chicken burger and a mushroom risotto, I headed to the bar, only to be told there was no risotto. Or steak.
Cue a back-and-forth between my friends before we settled on the burger (£7.95), a haddock and chips (£7.95) and a chilli con carne (£7.95).
The large portions more than made up for the initial disappointment. My moist chicken was fried in a tasty crispy coating and was rather good, even if the chips were pub-standard.
Unfortunately, the average chilli, which came alongside rice, jalapenos and cheese, was missing another couple of vital ingredients – any chilli heat and the advertised sour cream. It seems they had run out of that as well.
Luckily, a huge, crisp and oil-free fish did the job of filling up my other friend perfectly, as did his heap of chips and fresh salad.
Still, I hope Robbie’s influence will be felt more positively next time, and it’ll end on Ae Fond Kiss.
