Chung Hwa: Great Northern Road, Aberdeen

I WOULD never want to add any credence to the myth Aberdonians are a bit stingy. However, we do love a bargain.

And when it comes good deals, Chung Hwa in Great Northern Road is hard to beat with its “three main meals for £11” offer.

With No 2 son back in the fold, we opted to share chicken satay (£4.10), XO chicken (£4.10), and chicken crispy noodles (£5), plus a portion of chips and egg fried rice (both £1.60). The delicious satay was so fine it had us eye-balling just how big a portion we were each spooning on to our plates. Tender meat in a deliciously mildly spicy, peanutty-flavour sauce.

The XO chicken was another good-size portion and was tasty enough, just lacking any distinctive flavour. We all agreed the crispy noodles were a crunchy, savoury success accompanied by flavoursome, soft chicken.

With another 10% off for collecting my phoned-in order, plus a free portion of plump prawn crackers, the whole bill came to a very pleasing £14.80.
