CELEBRITY MasterChef has a lot to answer for...
One minute I’m happily watching semi-celebs attempting to cook scampi, chips and homemade mayonnaise, the next my stomach is growling and I’m standing in line for haddock and scampi suppers (£5.70 and £4.80 respectively).
Not that I’m complaining though – especially after tasting what the friendly owners of Jumbo Fish and Chips had cooked for me.
The first bonus was the fact that the fish came out of the fryer rigid – no sign of the dreaded chipper’s droop, when the fish sags in the tongs because it’s so sodden with oil.
The crisp golden batter gave way to soft, moist flesh – a sure sign it was cooked fresh to order.
The scampi, although perhaps not quite as plump and juicy as the ones on MasterChef, still had a nice flavour.
So, as the show’s judge Gregg Wallace might say, – “mmmmmmmmm”.
