Massala Garden: Brighton Place, Peterculter

AFTER spending the best part of the day travelling home from the Canary Islands, the last thing we wanted to do was cook.

So we took advantage of Massala Garden’s website and ordered using my wife’s iPhone on the drive home from the airport. Yes, I know it would have been much easier to just phone the takeaway, but this is the 21st century – get with the programme grandad!

Ahem ...

Ravenous, we were tucking into our crispy and sweet onion bhajis (£2.25) within minutes of plonking down our suitcases.

Our shared king prawn puree (£3.95) – which initially seemed mildly spiced but left us with a satisfying afterglow of heat – didn’t last long before it was on to our main courses, garlic chilli lamb balti (£6.95) for me and garlic chilli chicken massala (£6.95) for my wife.

Flecked with soft and sweet turmeric-tinged bullets of garlic and little daggers of fiery chillies, neither dish was for the faint-hearted but they were truly delicious.

As we mopped up the garlic pilau rice with the garlic naan (what can I tell you – we adore garlic) and lamented the fact our holiday was over, at least this Indian feast took the edge off our return home.
