Slains Castle: 14-19 Belmont Street, Aberdeen

FEELING the need for a treat, I made the decision to seek out some devilishly-delicious grub.

So my mate Andrew and I chose to sample the gothic charms of Slains Castle on Belmont Street.

Despite the spooky surroundings we got a warm welcome from the friendly and attentive staff.

I staked a claim on the Hunter’s Chicken (£5.95). The butterfly breast was smothered with cheddar cheese, bacon and a smoky BBQ sauce and came with chips and peas. The chicken was delicious, if a bit dry, and could have done with more BBQ sauce.

Andrew chose the lasagne (£5.65) and was suitably impressed. The dish looked home made, with plenty of tomato sauce and Italian herbs. He said the accompanying garlic bread was delicious too, but could have had more crunch.

I also tucked into a portion of onion rings (£1.25), which were covered in a crisp, peppery batter. Both the main dishes were part of the “Two meals for £8” deal, which was a pleasant surprise. With a couple of drinks, the whole lot came to £12.45.

So, for a tasty bite at a scarily decent price, Slains Castle was ghoulishly good.
