McGinty’s: 504 Union Street, Aberdeen

I CAN’T profess to being psychic or having mind-reading powers.

But, the moment we walked into McGinty’s I knew exactly what my daughter would be having for lunch.

As we pushed open the doors we were greeted by a mouth-wateringly meaty waft of home-made steak pie ... so there was really no point in handing the pie-loving lass a menu.

To give my papoose her due, she gave the tempting list of options a good read through as I hummed and hawed over my choice but we both knew what she was going to tell the waiter.

McGinty’s kitchen must be run like a well-oiled machine as we had very little wait for our meals.

And my daughter’s generous plate of beefsteak pie (£8.25) more than lived up to her expectations.

Big chunks of tender beef in rich gravy, topped with light crispy pastry, with chips and veg. It was a big “yum” from her. I had opted for what I thought was the more modest club sandwich (£7.45), but there was nothing modest about the monster toasted triple decker packed with juicy chicken, crisp and smoky bacon, lettuce and mayonnaise. And it came with chips and salad! I struggled, but this tasty toast-fest was worth it.
