AFTER a weekend of over-indulgence, sometimes the perfect tonic can be to go the extra mile with Sunday lunch.

Despite being wined and dined for 48 hours, I found myself with a major case of the midday munchies.

So I decided to take my wife to the Linsmohr Hotel in Pitmedden where a warm welcome from owners William and Karen Berry and an exceptional menu awaited.

We opted for a Linsmohr platter of haggis pasty, Thai fishcake and a black tiger prawn skewer (£6.50).

Every element prompted a cross-table cutlery joust.

I followed up with a muckle homemade steak burger with cheese (£7.50), which came with a huge bowl of crunchy, freshly cooked chips.

Across the table a massive portion of scampi with a beautiful salad disappeared at breakneck speed.

With just the right amount of table time to digest our food, we then shared the Linsmohr trio of sticky toffee pudding, lemon meringue ice cream and orange tart (£6.25).

It was real value for money, meaning my over- indulgent weekend didn’t break the bank.
