Chris Maguire: ‘I can be goal hero for Aberdeen FC’

Maguire targeting Dundee United

By Ross McTavish

Published: 08/09/2010

CHRIS Maguire today claimed he is desperate to repeat his Scotland heroics for Aberdeen FC.

The Aberdeen FC striker’s late glory goal secured a 2-1 win over Austria and propelled his country’s under-21 side into the Euro 2011 play-offs.

Now he wants to start up front in his side’s SPL game at Dundee United on Saturday.

Maguire said: “Hopefully, I can take that into club level and start scoring goals.

“If I can play through the middle and get chances like that, I can do it.”

Mr. Maguire, please hold your stand up routine for the Edinburgh fringe festival next year or something. Thank you.

Maguire has had years to show his worth at Premier level - I am sorry but he does not have it. He is fine at U21 level, thats it. Still he could play for Scotland, Boyd and McCulloch do, so it is possible!!!!!!!!

the short sightedness of some is beyond belief sometimes. Here's a kid, obviously the best U21 striker in Scotland going by his form for the U21's and the fact he is the 1st name on the team sheet but because AFC (both MM & JC) decide they want to push him out wide and he really cant play there our fans want rid. Goodwillie played 3 times as many games for Utd last season as Maguire managed but only scored twice as many goals... Instead of berating the kid for being stuck out on the wing and not managing to replicate his form for the U21's through the middle I'd rather we gave him a proper run up front, main striker, through the centre and watched him bang them in as we have all seen him do on an irregular basis. Come on McGhee, you have one of the best, if not the best young Scottish strikers in the country and you're wasting him on the wing. Get him inside, put Pawlett outside and lets start scoring goals!!

Brian, I believe he's had chances in the past, it's not even that he's young etc, it's the fact numerous times we keep hearing "I can score loads man so I can," from him yet he delivers very, very little. you want to know why he's scoring for scotland under 21's? Because he's playing against other under 21's. It's a bit rougher in the SPL. I'd be more forgiving if he'd simply be quiet and do his talking on the pitch. Same goes for the rest of the so called strike force in our team, but Maguire keeps playing the "I need chances, I know I can do it," card.

Its not him thats in the papers every week saying he's going to score loads Paul, its this paper that write about him... He says he wants to try and carry on his form from the U21 squad, this paper say he's going to be our goal hero. The reason he scores for the U21's is the same reason he won us a run in Europe a few seasons back with 6 goals in the last 5 games when he was given his chance down the centre of the attack, he was playing as a striker and not a winger. He's a 1 goal in every 3 start striker, best ratio of goals to starts we have. Yes the U21's is a different level but why would anyone want to bin the best U21 striker our country has just because he cant score from the wing? I honestly think that if/when we let him go he'll head to another team, get his chance through the middle and be a 15 goals a season striker. I want him to do it for us rather than some English Coca Cola/EL1 team who'll then flog him for a couple of million...

Well done Maguire. Sounds like he's been a revelation for the U21s campaign. There's too many angry Dons fans who treat their players worse than their enemies. Congratulate the lad on doing well for the U21s, don't use this as an opportunity to do him down. Hopefully he can take this form into the next Dons game and show the fans why so many football coaches rate him so highly.
