Fletcher focused on winning three points

Darren set to reach 50-cap milestone

SCOTLAND skipper Darren Fletcher insists claiming three points off Liechtenstein at Hampden tonight is more important than entering his country’s Hall of Fame.

The Manchester United midfielder will win his 50th cap when he leads Scotland in their second Euro 2012 qualifier against the group minnows.

Fletcher will be only the 26th player to gain 50 or more Scottish caps and will have his picture posted on the wall at Hampden alongside legends like Kenny Dalglish (102 caps), Denis Law (55), Billy Bremner (54) and former Dons Jim Leighton (91), Alex McLeish (77), Willie Miller (65) and Gordon Strachan (50). But Fletcher is more focused on ensuring the Scots win.

He said: “It’s a nice moment in my career. To have 50 caps for your country makes you very privileged and proud.

“That’s a personal thing that will come after the game.

“What’s important is getting the three points against Liechtenstein.”
