Aberdeen FC’s Maguire nets for young Scots

U-21s on target for Euro glory

ABERDEEN FC’s Chris Maguire was the goal hero as the young Scots stayed on course for a place in the European Championship play-offs.

Victory over Austria at Pittodrie on Tuesday would see Billy Stark’s boys top their group and head into the shoot-out for a place in the play-offs.

Maguire’s second-half penalty denied Belarus the win they needed to keep their hopes alive.

All three teams have 14 points ahead of the final fixtures for each, but Scotland will finish above Belarus if they beat the Austrians in Aberdeen on Tuesday, courtesy of their 1-0 home win against them in Paisley last year.

With head-to-head records the deciding factor, a draw at Pittodrie would see the Austrians advance following their home win over Stark’s side.
