A 10-YEAR-OLD girl was being treated in hospital today after she was bitten by a dog in the second attack of its kind this week.
A Japanese akita dog bit the face of Scottish schoolgirl Toni Clannachan while she was playing in a friend’s garden at a house on Tuesday, it was reported.
Toni Clannachan, 10, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, where she remained in a stable condition after the dog attack.
Toni’s father, James Dixon, said: “These dogs shouldn’t be with families or around kids. They are killing machines.”
Dad James Dixon said: “If the dog had bit her an inch or so lower it would have severed an artery in her neck and I really think she would be dead.”
He added: “She doesn't want to see her face. She is frightened to go to the toilet in case she sees a mirror.
“She's been asking if the dog has been put down – she is that frightened.”
It was revealed that Toni needed more than 100 stitches for the injury after the dog attack in Kilmarnock.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: “At 4.40pm on August 31 a 10-year-old female sustained facial injuries when she was bitten by a Japanese akita dog in the Kilmarnock area.”
On Sunday 10-year-old Rhianna Kidd was mauled by two Rottweilers while riding her bicycle in Dundee.
The primary school pupil was treated for a fractured jaw and had to have plastic surgery. The dogs were later put down.
Tayside Police said a 33-year-old woman had been charged in connection with the attack under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
