A MAJOR earthquake has rocked the seabed off the Aberdeen coast.
And scientist today warned the fault lines running through the floor of the North Sea could lead to even bigger quakes.
Dr Dave Healy, a lecturer in geomechanics at the University of Aberdeen, said the 3.6 magnitude tremor about 155 miles off the Aberdeen coast was “at the bigger end of the kind of magnitude you would expect to see in the North Sea”.
Dr Healy also revealed it was not just in the sea Scotland could be hit by earthquakes, the mainland could also expect to be rocked – a 1.8 magnitude quake struck in west Scotland last week.
