AFTER a busy morning, I was in desperate need of some serious chill-out time.
And what better way to do that than with a nice, peaceful pub lunch?
The Waverley Hotel in Peterhead’s Merchant Street looked pleasant, and it certainly lived up to my first impressions.
I was shown to my table by a friendly waitress who served me quickly, efficiently and with a friendly smile.
The pub had a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, with customers enjoying the homely and welcoming traditional-style bar.
After browsing though the hugely varied and tempting menu, I opted for the house pate (£4.50) as a starter. Served with several mini oatcakes, the dish really looked a treat and I was delighted with my choice.
And as I ladled mounds of smooth, creamy pate on to each one of the delicate biscuits, I found the rich flavours of each ingredient combined beautifully.
This was followed by my main course – a dish of chicken curry (£7.50).
With soft and tender chunks of chicken, a sweet, thick sauce and a bed of boiled rice, I devoured the hearty meal in minutes.
As I was paying my bill, the waitress gave me a friendly cheerio for the road.
The peaceful and welcoming atmosphere of Peterhead’s Waverley Hotel truly makes it an ideal place to enjoy a tasty pub lunch.
