ABERDEEN FC striker Michael Paton is poised to join Dundee on loan within the next 24 hours.

Aberdeen FC boss Mark McGhee today confirmed he is attempting to sort out a loan deal for Paton with the Dark Blues in an effort to create space on his wage bill to make new signings before the transfer window closes.

McGhee said: “There is a possibility Michael could go to Dundee.

“The deal hasn’t been concluded yet, mainly because Michael has been ill for the last week or so.

“But we are hoping it can happen today or early tomorrow to give us time to maybe take another player in.”

Got to feel sorry for Paton in a way, yes going to Dundee will get him first team games but personally I think we should be shifting on the likes of Mackie who has had 10 years to try and score for us without too much success while keeping Paton and getting him used to playing regularly in the SPL.

Brian - we have had opposing views in the past but could not agree with u more - take your pick from Mackie, Maguire, Ifill, Considine, BUT Paton - MM will b lucky to be here at Xmas this year. - words fail me and Saturdays display was v poor.

Bill - Couldnt agree more about the guys we should be shipping out on loan rather than Paton, but MM being lucky to be here by xmas, bit extreme surely? We were top of the league and through to the next round of the cup 48 hours ago! One narrow defeat is hardly just cause to start calling for McGhee's head. Although granted there is cause for concern with the lack of fire power up front which has been the problem for donkeys now. Its up to Magennis and Vernon to deliver because we know there is nobody else up front capable

Steve - I am NOT calling for MM`s head - I just think that AFC will b in such a state by Xmas that he will be gone thats all. There is no way ANY forward at AFC will score lots of goals - we all know that - and the defence r bound to let in a few - add it up - it means TROUBLE. As for 3rd in SPL - how long do u think that will last??? and in next round of Cup - I should b - - - - y think so - we played ALLOA not Man U.

Spot on lads Mackie and Maguire and had more than enough chances to prove themselves so they should be shipped out. I actually like the look of Paton when he is given a chance he looks like he has the hunger for it. However he will benefit from this move as it will give him much needed competetive matches to aid in his development.

Seems daft to get rid of Paton. He scored some important goals last season. I know he's the only one likley to be in demand but surely SPL experience is better than Div 1 experience? How does he get the nod ahead of Megginson?

I thought Ifill had a great game. Vast improvement from last year. Mackie has gone down hill. He did have pace & fight but now they are even gone. Get shot of him & Foster to get in the 2 lads waiting in the wings. Paton has to be a better shout than Mackie!

from what i have seen paton is the best striker at the club at the moment plus he works off the ball for the team cant see where the goals are going to come from another strange decision from mm
