Aberdeen FC boss furious at Megginson

McGhee blames teenager for losing match

THERE was no hiding place for Aberdeen FC teenager Mitch Megginson today as manager Mark McGhee vented his frustration at seeing his team lose for the first time this season.

Striker Megginson, on as a second-half substitute for Chris Maguire, got in a tangle with Aberdeen FC keeper Mark Howard to present Kilmarnock’s Jamie Hamill with a gift of an injury-time winner in their SPL clash at Pittodrie.

McGhee chose to give the 18-year-old a slating in the hope that it will inspire Megginson to do better when he next plays for the Aberdeen FC first team.

“I hope Mitch felt terrible over the weekend,” he said. “I hope he had sleepness nights, staring at the ceiling thinking about the mistake he made that cost us the game.”

WHAT a terrible thing to say about a kid - get real MM - it is YOUR team and YOUR responsibilty. What about the previous 90 mins - what did YOUR team do - fail to score and YOU picked it. I am very afraid for AFC - this year could b worse than last.

What happened to "win as a team and lose as a team". If it had been one of the older and more experienced players I would understand the reason for the ear bashing..but to make the 18 year old suffer like this may not be the best in man management tactics. The guy is young and the last thing we want is for him to lose confidence. Yes, he should be made aware of his mistake, and I'm sure he does play it over and over again in his mind. We don't want to end up with players like we had last season who were constantly hiding from the ball in case they messed up and were made scapegoats. C'mon Mark, team building is what is required not to alienate an individual who is still learning his craft.

Rubbish Mark have a look at yourself! No fullbacks and you persist with Strikers who don't have a clue.

Perhaps McGhee should take a look at himself. He selected the team and allowed Mackie to destroy the game with his headless chicken act. At times I cringed as Howard was looking for an out-ball to hit Killie on the break and Mackie just casually walked to the halfway line. Feel Sorry for Megginson. An 18-year-old striker shouldn't have been left as the last man. Where was the defence? 30 yards away after another failed long ball.

HOW and more importantly WHY does Mackie get a game at AFC - anyone care to answer me - I am totally baffled.

I hope Megginson had a sleepless night, staring at the ceiling thinking "Why when I am an out and out striker does my manager play me out of position in midfield?????"

Poor form from MM here, the poor lad makes one slip-up, granted a costly one, and MM is all over him like a pack of wolves. What he should really be asking himself is when they had the amount of ball that they did, why was the game not wrapped up by that point in the first place? Well for a start Mackie was playing. But they should have had the game beyond doubt by that late stage that losing a goal wouldnt have changed the outcome. My concern this season has always been our lack of anyone that you could class as a natural finisher. We need Magennis and Vernon to deliver because me know Mackie and McGuire dont deliver anywhere near regularly enough. Because against Hearts, Utd, Hibs and the old firm, it wont just be errors at the back that cause us problems, we need to start finding the net. Its only one defeat, granted its a game we should have won and is the type of games we should be winning, but just as it was too early to get excited last week, its too early to start hitting the panic button and calling for heads. Put things into perspective, 3 games in we have 6 points and are 3rd on our own, I'll take that

MM you take the responsibility for this what are you trying to do with this young lad, you put on the park in the first place.. You should start to play players in their own positions and maybe you won't find these things are happening!!! Talk about sloping shoulders!!! What about the strikers failing to score AGAIN!!!

MM has to be the one to take responsibility for the defeat. Shocking Decision making once again. Mackie surely has to be jettisoned from the club asap!! As for slating a player in public - I agree with all of the above

whats going to happen the next time u put the kid on mc ghee the lads going to be a bag of nerves incase he makes a mistake which he has more chance of doing now because of man management like this we need the young players at the club to progess cause were skint things like this wont help them do that

Just to add my tuppence worth as well. I totally agree that MM's man management is very poor. At least Mitch was there to try to make a clearance - where was the defence? The Pie man's report on the match is great for a laugh - apparently it was the crowd's fault that we lost the game, not the lack of creativity on the park. And last point WM's comments are typical of the AFC borad - we have Paul Hartley so we don't need Lee Hendrie. Who's going to provide the leadership on the park if PH is injured or suspended? THe board are so short sighted they need to go to Specsavers!!
