ABERDEEN FC striker Josh Magennis is desperate to shoot down Kilmarnock today and give the stricken Fraser Fyvie something to smile about.

Josh wants to claim all three points and then dedicate the win to the teenage midfielder who is in Glasgow for an operation.

Fyvie suffered cruciate knee ligament damage in the 3-0 midweek Co-Operative Insurance Cup victory at Alloa.

After going under the surgeon’s knife he is set to miss the rest of the season.

Josh admits he was shocked at hearing the screams of agony from Fyvie as the youngster lay in a crumpled heap on Recreation Park’s synthetic surface.

Now the summer signing from Cardiff is determined to do his bit to help the 17-year-old get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

“Fraser is in Glasgow for his operation, so winning today would be as much for him as it would for the team,” said Josh.

“Hopefully, we can do it for us all and dedicate the victory to Fraser.

“I can’t believe what happened to him. First of all I heard the screams and I thought he had dislocated his knee. I was cringing.

“Then I was told Fraser is going to be out for the rest of the season.

“I know what he is going through. I broke my leg earlier this year and it really gets you down.

“The only thing that can help him is the boys at the club. We need to keep his head up and see him through it. It may not seem like it for him now, but time flies.

“There are some people in the team who like to keep quiet and do their job.

“However, there are others – like myself, Zander Diamond and skipper Paul Hartley – who aren’t too scared to speak up if needs be.

“If Fraser needs someone to pick him up there won’t just be me, there will be loads of players in the team willing to do it.

“It’s good to have people around that will give you confidence and I am sure we will do that. It will help him through it.”
