FOOTBALL star Jermain Defoe should be “setting a good example” to fans when he drives, a road safety group said today.
Tottenham and England player Defoe, 27, of Cuffley, Hertfordshire, admitted using a hand-held mobile phone while driving a Range Rover in Loughton, Essex, in October 2009.
Magistrates in Witham, Essex, adjourned sentencing Defoe until September 17.
A court clerk said Defoe would be facing a ban.
The Tottenham player, was banned from driving for six months in 2009 after being convicted of speeding.
Katie Shephard, of road safety campaign group Brake, said: “He should be encouraging young men to drive responsibly.”
