Family’s heartbreak over tragedy

POLICE were today investigating the death of 10-month-old Leland Symons who died after being taken to hospital.

Distraught mum-of-five Agnes Symons, 36, was being supported by social workers after finding the baby boy unconscious in his cot at their home in the Kirkton area of Dundee.

A post mortem was expected to take place today to establish how the child died.

Leland’s grandad Jim Symons today spoke of the family’s heartbreak over the death.

“Police are at present investigating the tragic death of our beloved grandson,” he said.

“This happened as the result of an accident and no blame whatsoever has at any time been apportioned.”

It was understood police were investigating whether a blind cord played a role in the baby’s death.

A Tayside Police spokesman said: “We are currently carrying out inquiries following the death of a 10-month-old boy at Ninewells Hospital on Monday, August 23.

“The boy’s family, who are being supported by a family liaison officer, are co-operating fully with the inquiry.”
