Coastal house decorated with a nautical theme

WARRENDALE is a house which made one family’s dreams of the sea come true.

Wendy and George Campbell’s impressive four-bedroom bungalow has been their happy home for the last 11 years.

And living there has fulfilled two lifelong ambitions for the couple.

“We had always wanted to build our own home and had always lived around Balmedie and Belhelvie,” said 55-year-old Wendy, a retired receptionist.

“When we got the opportunity to buy the land here and build a house on it, it was just a dream come true.

“And I always wanted to be by the sea and there are sea views from the house too. I will miss seeing the seaside all the time as it’s where I walk our two Chow Chow dogs, Amber and Kenzo”

Wendy and George, 59, have just become proud grandparents for the first time.

Their daughter Fiona, 31, has just had a little girl called Indiana two weeks ago.

And their son Grant, 27, is to become a dad later in the year too.

George, who works for BP, and Wendy planned Warrendale as a perfect family home.

“I wanted to make sure the rooms were big with a sunny position and outlook,” said Wendy.

“I think the lounge is a good, big size and so is the kitchen which leads through to the sun room.

“I think compared to some other houses you see, our rooms are quite large and they get lots of light because of the sunny position we’re in.”

And creative Wendy has used her long-time love of the seaside as inspiration for her home’s decor.

“I love anything that’s nautical, which you can see throughout the house,” she said.

“I’ve picked up lots of bits and pieces over the years as I can’t resist them.”

When the sun streams through the windows in the lounge, the room is bathed in a soft blue colour, perfect for showing off the nautical pieces there including statues of sailing boats, a ship’s wheel on one wall and canvas prints of the coast.

Elsewhere in the house are sailing boats on curtains and cushions, especially in the bedrooms which are all bright.

Outside, the couple have taken great care in planting a garden which was once just a patch of bare land. Today it’s where the dogs like to lie around soaking up the sun between walks down by the water.

George and Wendy are now hoping to move to Inverurie, to be closer to their grandchildren.

She added: “I hope another family will enjoy the location of this house.

“It’s really perfect as you can enjoy country living and coastal living, but you’re only 15 minutes from Dyce and 20 from Aberdeen city centre.”
