PETERHEAD keeper Paul Jarvie welcomes the competition of new Blue Toon signing John Bateman.

Balmoor boss Neale Cooper snapped up the former Aberdeen FC player, who spent last season on loan at the club, as part of his bid to strengthen his squad ahead of their push for promotion from Division Two.

And ex-Dundee United keeper Jarvie admits that having Bateman breathing down his neck will keep him on his toes.
